Jackson police have arrested a person in connection to a fatal shooting Thursday night.
Spokesperson Sam Brown said Samuel Pinson was shot multiple times on the 300 block of N. Prentiss Street around midnight. He died at the scene.
Brown said police have a person in custody who was involved in the shooting.
The shooting death marks the 21st homicide in Jackson in 2021, according to Jackson police.
The capital city recorded the highest number of homicides in its history in 2020, which police attributed largely to personal conflicts and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Jackson had 130 homicides over the year, an increase of 38 deaths from the previous record of 92 homicides in 1995, according to FBI data.
